Solidarity and Social Responsibility

Past Sessions

2019-2020

Module IV continued to develop our impact project. In partnership with KinderEnergy, a UN non-government organization, each girl in Module IV will plan and execute projects raise funds and/or collect supplies for families and children in Ankleshwar, India. After researching the town and its needs, the Module IV participants identified that children are in need of sports supplies to help incentivize them to go to school. Families are also in need of outhouses. At our next meeting we will develop a plan for executing a fundraiser. Alexandra also led a short marketing session to help the girls craft an elevator pitch so the girls can effectively talk about their projects. The girls also put their social responsibility to practice in a local way by hosting the Christmas party.

2018-2019

After a breakout session where participants saw that etiquette is essential for solidarity and sociability on a daily level, speakers presented on solidarity and social responsibility on a larger scale. Maria Gomez, board member of two U.S.-based NGOs, presented on two projects personally important to her. She focused on efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as those in the Bronx, NY. Isabel Perez, world renowned concert pianist and UN-focal point, inspired the girls to get organized, make deadlines for themselves, see how they can join efforts or make use of existing resources, and change the world!
