Emotional Intelligence: The Power of Emotions

Past Sessions

2019-2020

Module 2 is off to a strong start! We began with some ice-breakers which provided an opportunity for the girls to get to know each other. Module 2 leader, Anna, then gave an engaging presentation on emotional intelligence. She highlighted the importance of engaging our reason with our emotions so we channel our emotions for the good instead of becoming dominated by them. Afterwards, the girls took a quiz to learn more about their leadership styles, and we discussed the results of the quiz. We are looking forward to equally enjoyable and informative sessions for the year ahead!

2017-2018

Mary Beth Irwin, fifth year Civil Engineering student at Stevens Institute of Technology, spoke to us about what emotions are and how they affect our daily lives.  She made a compelling argument that there is room for, and, in fact, a need for emotional intelligence in the STEM disciplines.  We put what we learned into practice during our breakout session representing different scenarios of positive and negative ways of dealing with emotions.
