Reliability of Scripture

Dr. Peggy Garvey presented on the ‘Reliability of the Christian Scriptures’. Comparing the manuscripts of the Scriptures to other ancient documents, she showed how archaeological and historical data demonstrates that what is presented as being historical in the Scriptures is genuinely so. She outlined a case against rationalism, a common way of thinking in academia which equates the Christian Scriptures with more mythological religious myths.  In the breakout session we applied what we learned about verifying historical documents to the use made by one researcher of computer programs, ancient documents and a very detailed analysis of the gospels in his argument for an astronomical event of the 1st century B.C. being the actual star.
